Newsflash

A study found that triathletes are twice as likely to experience sudden death during a race than marathoners. Apparently, strain on the heart of those with pre-existing heart conditions can cause heart attacks, especially during the swim. The study suggests that athletes visit a doctor first for a clean bill of health, train adequately & in open water & acclimate to colder water. Wetsuits are highly recommended.

Written by Terie Box
Thursday, 20 May 2010
Unless you live in Harbor Town, chances are it doesn’t often occur to you that Memphis is truly a river city. Founded on the banks of the powerful, swirling, mighty Mississippi River, the city was named after a happening, well-developed hub of marine activity on the banks of the Nile in ancient Egypt. For many years, the city’s residents lived close by the busy waterfront, thriving off of the benefits of the enormous moving body of muddy water, but slowly moved away as other business opportunities allowed less dependence on the river. Unfortunately, as most of the population has moved farther and farther away from the river, so, it seems, has the memory of its importance faded as new generations are born without any real knowledge of it.
