Here are a couple of indoor-reading suggestions for all the time you're spending inside due to the abnormal amount of snow this year - enjoy!
Driven Winter Reading List: The Everything Triathlon Training Book By Lucia Colbert and Brent Manley Along with the New Year comes a rash of resolutions, and we’re betting that many of you are planning to race in your first triathlon this year. If so, and you don’t want to depend solely on the advice of friends for a successful first race, try reading up on the subject first. Local triathlete Lucia Colbert and local runner Brent Manley have joined forces to write this introductory-level book for beginner triathletes, complete with experienced advice on how to: find the right shoes, bike, and swimwear; train for sprint and Olympic-distance triathlons; improve running form, cycling efficiency, and freestyle stroke; train alone or in a group, and more. “Brent approached me to write this book,” says Colbert. “I was totally flattered. Brent is an unbelievable writer and has written two “Everything” books for Bridge. We had a lot of fun writing. I had to remember stuff I had forgotten so long ago and add all the new stuff that’s out. We’ll do a second edition if there is a need, or maybe a more advanced book. Ours is for beginners.” In addition to information on nutrition and motivation, this informational guide also provides training logs so athletes can keep track of their progress every step of the way. The authors take athletes from start to the finish line, and even touch on the subject of the Ironman-distance race. A great gift for the triathlete-in-training, this book is available at Fleet Feet Sports in the Laurelwood Shopping Center. Driven Winter Reading List: Off Road Trails By Elle Colquitt and Jon livengood One of the best resources we’ve seen in a while! This handy book is a dream come true for the adventurous biker, hiker, and trail runner. Off Road Trails features 31 mountain bike trail systems from around Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and the Tri-Cities. The full-colored, fold-out topographic maps make it easy to navigate any of the trail systems featured. The radius around each city is color-coded for easy reference. Each section offers driving directions to the trailheads, introductory summaries of each trail system, suggested routes with detailed trail maps and descriptions, plus a gallery of pictures. Trailhead parking, visitor and nature centers, restrooms, campgrounds and points of interests are highlighted. This is an excellent reference book that can be enjoyed by trail runners and day hikers as well. Currently in Nashville, the books are at all the local bike shops, Cumberland Transit, REI, Borders Bookstores, and Davis-Kidd. We can only hope that the West Tennessee version will come out soon as well! Check out the website: MiniAdventureSeries.com. $28.99 plus shipping. |
