    Every year around the first week in Feburary I start to hear the buzz. “Who do you think will be in the lineup?” “Do you think it will be good this year?” “I heard that U2 is gonna be here this year, maybe even a bigger name too.” Once the line up gets released the conversation goes something like this: “Man that lineup sucks.” “When are we gonna get some real acts to come here?” “I’m not going again this year.” Maybe sometimes this is an OK perspective, But every year? I figured I would take the time to make counter arguments, so here goes...

    There were so many good albums released in 2009. I could have never kept up with them all in my normal fashion of reviews, so I decided it was time for a 2009 in review.      In my past columns, I have tried to open up the content to a wide variey of listener friendly,
semi-underground music, with one new album and a blast from the near past that hopefully is still new
to some. I tend to dig through my records to look for something that most people I know have never
heard, but always end up liking. This time I will be switching gears a bit. My blast from the past is one
I had not heard until the last few months but was released in 2004. The mainline of the article, Yuksek,
is a new find also but actually released within the last few months.

Gen·ius [jeen-yuhs} –noun: 1. an exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work in science, art, music, etc.: the genius of Mozart. 2. natural ability or capacity; strong inclination: a special genius for leadership.
    Aristotle described genius as the ability to look at something in a new way and create something never thought of before, something generally as timeless and archtypal as the componets themselves. I’m sure by now you’re wondering what this has to do with a music column.
